Q) OUR rabbits Bob and Boris get the “zoomies” around the garden and run around like crazy. But then Bob flops down, almost like he’s playing dead – although he seems OK. Does he need a check-up? He’s eating well and seems fit. Liz Holick, Reading Sean says: Sounds perfectly normal to me. I see this with a colony of wild rabbits near where I live. Most likely, they want to get some adult playtime. Rabbits are extremely sociable, and will play together, platonically and otherwise. I don’t think it how to stop cats eating rabbits

She said: “The weird thing is, Chaser had an almost identical injury to me during the first lockdown. “He had hip dysplasia and, following a double hip replacement, lost his footing and broke his right rear leg in almost exactly the same place. “He’s been cheering me up with cuddles, just like I did for him until he was back on his feet.”

What should I feed my pet rabbit?
Making sure your pet rabbit has a healthy diet is an important way to ensure it lives a long happy life. Rabbits need a specific diet to keep them healthy otherwise your pet can become ill or develop stress, according to Fetch my WebMD. Your rabbit’s daily diet should consist mostly of hay, a smaller amount of vegetables and a small amount of pellets, says VCA Animal Hospitals. High-quality grass hay is the most important part of your rabbit’s diet and should make up most of your rabbit’s daily intake. Grass hay, which is high in fibre, keeps your pet bunny’s digestive tract healthy. Young rabbits can have any type of grassy hay, but alfalfa hay should not be given to adult rabbits because of its high calcium and protein levels. What’s going on in my dog’s head? Why Does My Cat Kill Rabbits
the transformative ruined garden in Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden, Middle-earth in JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit amazing worlds contained in shelves of storybooks, battered and scribbled-on, often passed down by parents. I was a child who loved stories and I knew these imaginary worlds better than the real one. I was rubbish at geography, but I had a map of CS Lewis’s Narnia on my bedroom wall, and could easily have found my way from the Lamp-post in the forest to the castle of Cair Paravel.
These are the worlds we loved when we were very young. The real world was hard and bewildering, but we could always escape into a Wonderland in which we had power and independence, where animals talked and wore tweed and we were always home in time for tea. Do not assume, however, that Munsey’s series is all cosy nostalgia. Apart from anything else, nostalgia in this context isn’t really cosy at all, but something well-born British children of that time began to learn in the nursery even as they fell in love with the supposedly golden era of childhood, these Edwardian dream-children were taught to mourn its inevitable passing. The other enemy, in so many classic stories, is adulthood. Once a child goes through puberty, they are banished from Wonderland. Sex has no place in the golden realm on the surface of things, at least. There are, however, some disturbing undertones. Lewis Carroll seems to have avoided actual sexual relationships, but he had a well-known fondness for photographing little girls, including Alice Liddell. One of his biographers speculates that Carroll fell out with the Liddells because he wanted to get engaged to the 11-year-old child and marry her as soon as it was legal. There has never been a shred of evidence that he did anything suspect; he simply worshipped the supposedly innocent state of being a child.

Peter Pan is “the boy who wouldn’t grow up”, and his stubborn rejection of maturity is presented as a virtue. JM Barrie married the beautiful actress Mary Ansell, but there were rumours that they never consummated the marriage, and in the present age of acute sexual awareness, certain passages in his book The Little White Bird, in which he rapturously describes sharing a bed with a little boy, look.

What Animals Eat Rabbits
“Rabbits make wonderful pets, but they do have many needs that can unintentionally be overlooked if we aren’t aware of the best way to care for them. From creating the perfect living space to providing the right, balanced diet, there are key things you can do to help keep your rabbits healthy, happy, and living their best life. The right diet “Rabbits are herbivores, so they need to eat a plant-based diet that’s high in fibre. The best way to ensure they get enough fibre is to give them at least their own body size (but ideally an unlimited amount!) in good quality hay or fresh grass every day. You should also give a handful of fresh greens twice a day, and a tablespoon of rabbit nuggets once or twice daily depending on their size. Avoid feeding your bunny muesli as they tend to only eat the sugary elements, leaving the fibre-rich parts, leading to an unbalanced diet. “Don’t be alarmed if your bunnies eat their own droppings – it’s actually good for them and an essential part of their nutrition! Digestible fibre moves through your bunnies’ guts faster than it can be absorbed, before being excreted as soft, sticky.

island: an adult rabbit and her young. In 2014, Macquarie was declared pest free, the largest island to successfully eliminate rabbits to date. Ten years after Wags sniffed out the last rabbit, the island has sprung back to life, and Houghton has stuck around to witness the change. She gave up dog handling, became a scientist and completed her PhD as part of the research team monitoring the island’s resurgence. “Seeing it rebound, knowing it’s got a long way to go, and that we don’t know what else is going to happen, it’s so exciting,” Houghton says. An all-you-can-eat buffet Houghton remembers being “blown away” by her first views of Macquarie Island after a three-day voyage south from Tasmania in 2011. Its beaches were crowded with hulking elephant seals and raucous colonies of endemic royal penguins. But Keith Springer, who was leading the Macquarie Island Pest Eradication Project, warned her that beyond the beaches the once biodiverse and unique island was so damaged that it was “nothing but a pretty paddock”.

can have so much diversity of insects – there’s a lot of endemic species,” she says. Removing mice, rats and rabbits might not seem like a way to improve life for invertebrates, but many of them rely on the plants the rabbits were gobbling up. Also, “when mice are on an island they target juicy larvae, caterpillars, moths and spiders and beetles,” says Houghton. The change is palpable. “You go into a hut now and there’s cobwebs everywhere.”

Typically after an eradication scientists tend to assess how one charismatic species has responded to the pests’ removal. But Shaw is interested in how the island is responding as a whole ecosystem. “It’s not like someone turns the lights on and it’s back to normal. It’s actually quite a staggered response,” she says. When Shaw talks about the legacy of the eradication she looks to the future. Understanding the intricacies of how Macquarie Island is recovering has informed island pest eradications on New Zealand’s sub-Antarctic Antipodes Islands, South Georgia and more. In July 2022 a project was announced to eradicate predators including possums,.

love of the pomegranate. Oh, I don’t dislike this fruit that seems only to be around near the Christmas holidays, but I don’t really like to eat them as much as I enjoy a good recipe that includes them. Anyway, we planted this little budding tree in the front yard, where it could get lots of sun, and we waited. At about the same time, we noticed what appeared to be a mama rabbit and her two bunnies, who had taken up residence in one of the large, somewhat overgrown, natural areas in our front yard. The babies were adorable, and I looked forward to seeing them hopping through the wide-open spaces of our yard early in the morning, when fewer predators appeared to be afoot. Then I noticed a problem. The pomegranate plant looked nice and green, but it appeared to be diminishing in size. At some point we realized the bunnies were noshing on our budding tree. So we took action. We put some decorative fencing, about nine inches tall, around the plant, only about 15 inches tall when I bought it – to no avail. The “tree” slowly became a tiny leafless twig and then unnoticeable at.
