Contrary to researchers' expectations, cats with higher levels of the hormone oxytocin displayed fewer bonding behaviors than those with lower levels.  Marcel ter Bekke via Getty Images A new study from researchers at Azabu University in Japan suggests that house cats’ gut microbiomes and hormones like cortisol, oxytocin and testosterone may explain why some felines get along well with each other and others are more aloof.  “Cats are solitary and territorial, but they have evolved to acquire the abilities and skills to live in groups,” Hikari Koyasu, lead author from Azabu University, tells Inverse’s Tara Yarlagadda.  Researchers split 15 shelter cats into groups, placing five random cats in three 13-by-25-foot rooms for two weeks. Over this time period, they used video cameras to observe the cats' behavior, and they collected urine and feces to measure hormones and microbial species present.  They found that cats with higher cortisol and testosterone concentrations exhibited fewer social behaviors like grooming, sharing food or sniffing, while those with lower amounts of cortisol and testosterone were more social. Additionally, cats with similar microbiomes had more frequent contact with each other, and cats with higher testosterone levels were more likely to try to escape, per the cat desktop wallpaper aesthetic

Warriors faced the Boston Celtics in this year’s NBA Finals. “Either way I was winning because it was either my home team or my home team,” said the 2019 Vintage High graduate. Brandt has considered the Boston suburb of Quincy, Massachusetts as much her hometown as Napa since she began playing NCAA Division III softball there for Eastern Nazarene College in 2020. “New York City is like three hours away,” she said, “and Washington DC is six hours away, like driving to L.A. for the weekend.” She said students can attend any professional sports game for $9, be it the NHL’s Boston Bruins, the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, or the Celtics. “I’ve fallen in love with hockey,” she said. “The sports culture just in Boston is amazing. I grew up a Red Sox fan, so getting to go to games all the time is amazing.” People are also reading… Brandt is going into her senior year at ENC, where as a left fielder she made the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association All-Region Second Team this past spring after landing a Third Team spot as a sophomore. having such different backgrounds and being from such different places. You never run out of things to talk about,” Brandt said. “I went with one of my teammates to her house for the weekend in upstate New York and I was amazed that no houses had fences. You can just buy any old trash bin and put it on the side of the street and they pick it up, and high school kids ride school buses. Instead of saying something is ‘hella’ good, they said it’s ‘wicked’ good. “One of my roommates has this super-thick Boston Italian accent, so she’s like ‘Pahk the cah’ and ‘it’s in the drawah in ya bedrum.’ It’s a cool little accent, but I haven’t brought it home. Hopefully I don’t catch it, because I like talking the way that I do.” She said she became a better conversationalist when she attended the five-day NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis earlier this summer. She said every NCAA Division I, II or III school in the country can nominate five student-athletes to attend the forum. That pool of as many as 10,000 applicants is slashed down to 200 attendees. “I learned cat wallpaper

to Durham. Its Kenmore line, which started as a sewing machine brand in 1913 before branching into vacuums and other home appliances, became the leading home appliance brand in the United States. These private labels were the exception, however. For most of the 20th century, national brands such as Jell-O, H.J. Heinz, Campbell Soup and Johnson & Johnson had power over stores. These manufacturers flooded the airwaves and newspapers with advertisements extolling the advantages of their products. Most customers were fiercely loyal to specific brands, not retailers. A store that didn't carry major labels would likely get crushed, which gave manufacturers immense leverage.Additionally, many store brands were also considered dull, cheap knockoffs of national brands. The low point of private label came during the 1970s, Durham said, when stores seeking to cut costs and rolled out generics with basic white backgrounds and black letters identifying the product -- beer, soap, cola, beans and other staples.Shopper loyaltyRetailers make private label brands for a variety of reasons, including to boost profitability and sometimes as a negotiating tool against brands.Private brands often carry profit margins that are 20% to 40% higher than national brands because stores don't have to pay the advertising, distribution or other markup costs.

be known because it undermines the power of their own brands." But there are some exceptions. Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies diapers, produces Kirkland Signature diapers for Costco and Duracell produces Kirkland Signature batteries, Costco executives have said. Georgia-Pacific, the maker of Brawny and Dixie, also produces store brands. So does Henkel, the manufacturer of Purex and Dial. Eight O'Clock Coffee and Kenmore Store labels have been around since the early days of retail and the emergence of consumer brands in the 19th century. Macy's sold stoneware whiskey jugs under its own name. Customers could bring back the jugs for refills, according to Christopher Durham, the president of the Velocity Institute, a trade association for private brands. Montgomery Ward developed its own line of aspirin in wooden containers, while the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (aka A&P) sold branded spices with the slogan "Take the Grandmother's Advice, Use A&P Spices." A&P later developed Eight O'Clock Coffee, one of the most famous private labels of the period. Yet no U.S. retailer was more successful developing its own brands than Sears, Roebuck. In 1925, Sears created the Allstate brand for car tires. A few years later, Sears launched its first Craftsman.
