As a long-seasoned internet denizen, you already know people like cats. So you won’t be surprised to learn that Stray, a game that lets you traipse through the streets of a mysterious, dystopic cybercity as a cat, was immediately popular upon launch this week. The game’s premise is simpleand a little heartbreaking. You’re a marmalade kitty living with your family in what looks to be the edges of a city reclaimed by nature, and one day during your wanderings, you’re unexpectedly separated from them. Down you plunge into the underground of a grimy, decayed city. Finding your way home requires navigating a series of gritty, robot-populated cityscapes reminiscent of Tokyo and Hong Kong. You pick up a sentient drone friend along the way, one who has its own personal mystery to solve, and together you hunt for the way out.
You can only take catnaps in specific areas, but they’re always cute moments. (That lump black wallpaper

offer an even bigger treat, since it’s more common to have an ultrawide monitor. Stray readily accommodates that aspect ratio, and after former colleague Leif Johnson sent me some of his screencaps from his gameplay on his Samsung Odyssey G9, it made me want to get my own ultrawide at long last. The extra real estate makes for stunning shots. That’s how much I like cats, apparently. An artificial intelligence has been asked to create an image of what death looks like, and the results are simply stunning. The artificial intelligence (AI) that was asked to create the images seen in the above video is called MidJourney, which was created by David Holtz, co-founder of Leap Motion, and is currently run by a small self-funded team that has several well-known advisors such as Jim Keller, known for his work at AMD, Apple, Tesla, and Intel, Nat Friedman, the CEO of Github, and Bill Warner, the founder of Avid Technology and inventor of nonlinear video editing. MidJourney is an incredible piece of technology, and it recently went into open beta, which means anyone can try it by simply heading over to its dedicated Discord server. requirements dropping support for 32-bit cores for example mirrors Windows 95’s abandonment of the 286 and earlier chips that had run the previous version, Windows 3.1. But in this case it seems as though they have wielded the axe a little too liberally, because a lot of owners of not-too ancient and certainly still pretty quick hardware will be left in the cold.
In the past there were accusations of a Microsoft/Intel duopoly idea that revolved around the chipmaker and OS vendor conspiring to advance each other’s products, and some commentators have revived it for this launch. A comparison between the 1990s and the present isn’t an easy one to make though, because the difference between the capabilities of a 386 desktop of 1990 and a Pentium 3 of 1999 through a decade in which Moore’s Law was at its height is so much more than for example that between between the first Intel i7 and the latest one. Is this simply Microsoft’s attempt to break with the need for so much of the backwards compatibility in which Windows is mired, and define a new PC for the 2020s? It will be interesting to see when the OS does finally cute black cat wallpaper

that provides a daily dose of what's going on in the world of technology. The book ban movement has a chilling new tactic: harassing teachers online Nancy Vera was awakened suddenly at midnight on July 12 by the sound of a single gunshot, the bullet ricocheting off her home. She looked at a security camera just in time to see a truck speed away. Vera was shocked but not surprised. The president of the Corpus Christi, Texas, branch of the American Federation of Teachers, she had recently handed out books with LGBTQ characters at a pride event for local students, alongside a drag queen. In response, she’d been called a “groomer” online, a slur commonly used by devotees of the conspiracy theory QAnon, which claims that powerful people and institutions are ensnaring children in sex trafficking rings. There is a growing push among Christian and conservative groups across the US to get certain books and topics they deem inappropriate for children removed from school libraries and curriculums. Now the fight is turning increasingly ugly, with people targeting individual teachers’ private social media accounts for scrutiny and even harassment. “This type of rhetoric is going to get people killed,” Vera says. black cat wallpaper iphone

leading center for coronavirus research, it was the first facility to isolate the virus, and the first to sequence its genome. One of its labs, led by virologist Shi Zhengli, focuses on coronaviruses that live in bats, and has spent years trying to understand how they may evolve to gain the ability to infect humans. Shi’s work has been at the center of controversy. Some have speculated that the live viruses her team cultured in the lab, includingmore worryinglythe ones they created by genetic tinkering, could be the source of the pandemic. Inflaming the suspicions are concerns over biosafety procedures at the lab, political tensions between China and the US, and a general sense that the Chinese government is not to be trusted. This is Shi’s side of the story. Read the full story. Jane Qiu Want to learn more about the controversy surrounding covid’s origins?
