Seniors 4 Seniors covers medical costs associated with owning an elderly cat, such as medications and trips to the vet.
“The biggest obstacle in the way of senior citizens adopting animals is typically the medical bills, so by us covering those bills, we allow seniors to get the love and benefits of having a feline companion without having to worry about unexpected costs,” Seniors program chair Heather Sweigert said.

For Johnson, a lifelong cat lover on a fixed Social Security income, this medical funding drew him to the program. He is also comforted by the fact that his cat is legally under FURR’s care, so that Tully will not have to return to a shelter if Johnson becomes unable to care for him.
Tully has made Johnson “the happiest [he’s] been in years,” he said. Johnson is an amputee who resides alone in Easton, and appreciates having his cat as a companion and a dependent.

To be prepared for adoption, Zanzibar and Zurich were bottle-fed by Goldsmith, who also nursed them back to health and showered them with love. “I know some people say they aren’t cat people and when they say that, I’m just like, ‘Oh, you just haven’t spent enough time around cats,'” continued Goldsmith. “It’s just such a joy to be around. They have so much love to give.”

and sometimes choking sadness. The goal is simple: Teach these future companions the ways of cats: playing, sharing, comforting. If the family dog wants to help, even better. Weeks later, when the foster parent’s job is done, these fluffy wards move on to adoption, ready to conquer the hearts of their forever families. Soon, there will be another late-night call, another desperate text: We’ve got a week-old orphan, can you help? Absolutely.

Munchkin Cat Lifespan
It makes the transition easier for everyone (even the family dog). (Photo by Samantha Gowen/SCNG)
What it takes to foster How long? Fostering a kitten typically takes up to two months, depending on their age. If you are caring for newborns, expect to go the distance. They’ll need at least eight weeks to be weaned, potty trained, vaccinated and ready to transition. If “transitional” kittens older than 3 weeks of age need help, expect to foster them around four to five weeks.
How to sign up? Find a local nonprofit rescue organization in your community. The Orange County Animal Center in Tustin also has a foster caretaker program that teaches volunteers how to do it. When in doubt, check local pet stores for rescue connections. The closer to your home the better. Why? Their supply chain and partner veterinarians also will be closer to you. What you’ll need: Rescue organizations, including most animal shelters, will provide necessary supplies such as kitten formula, bedding, litter, food and any veterinarian care such as vaccines or medical intervention. Foster volunteers work for free, contributing their time, patience and compassion. Be sure to have a clear schedule if you.

The boxes were taped shut, and with the recent hot weather in Hampton Roads, the cats could've easily perished. NORFOLK, Va. A cat and two kittens inside cardboard boxes were dumped outside the Norfolk SPCA overnight last Friday. According to a Facebook post from the shelter, the boxes had "cat" written on them in green ink. Inside, a mother cat and her two kittens were left without food or water. "No real protection from the elements. Just two taped-up cardboard boxes containing [the cats]," the shelter wrote. The boxes were taped shut, and with the recent hot weather in Hampton Roads, the cats could've easily perished. But luckily, the mother cat, named Genevieve, and her two kittens, Nook and Cranny, survived.

Munchkin was a Balinese street dog until her mum laid eyes on her more than six years ago
Getting her into Australia has been a bumpy road littered with health complications and quarantine rules
Her journey has attracted attention from across the world
Munchkin the Balinese street dog's turbulent journey home from Indonesia via Singapore and New Zealand was plagued by health conditions, quarantine rules and then COVID-19. Owner Natasha Corbin said for the first time in Munchkin's life, the pooch's future was certain as she settled into life on the Sunshine Coast with her co-owner David Daynes. "I remember writing down in my journal that I wanted to have days where we would go for walks on the beach with Munchkin and that this is what our life on the coast would look like, our little family spending time at the beach," she said.

"Our entire vision of what we wanted when we decided to bring Munchkin home has come true." Ms Corbin said.

really didn't think I was going to be back before February; I'd been looking at flights and looking at ways to get home and just didn't think it was going to be possible," Mr Daynes said. "Then Natasha rang me up one day and said, 'We've got you on a charter plane, you've got three days to pack up and clean the house and move countries'."

Ms Corbin said after years of organising international foster carers for Munchkin and moving to New Zealand to be with her, it was surreal that the mission was over. "It's still crazy to me that it took us six years and that we kept going for six years to get her home," she said. "She was such a beautiful little puppy, and we did really get attached to her, but I think if someone had said, 'It's going to take six years and tens of thousands of dollars', we probably would have thought twice about even starting on the process." While their determination attracted encouragement from friends and strangers, the couple has also been criticised for spending.
