He’d worn many hats in the design and business theatrical world at Maritz Communications illustrator, commercial artist, graphic designer, creative director and video production specialist to name a few. Thompson, who had always lived with and appreciated cats, developed a plan to feature them in his artwork during retirement. “Before I made any art, I wrote the story of CatWorks,” he says.

And what a story he wrote. It starts with a forgotten steamer trunk from an earlier time. Tucked in a coal cellar and filled with a surreal collection of images and ephemera he struggled to understand its significance until he found his grandfather’s journal.
